Mr. Lowe was known by some of his friends as "Kay" in high school. He authored a social commentary article for his high school newspaper that was selected for the regional reporting awards at Drake University in the high school level. This submission was titled "Klippings by Kenny". He also covered sports for the paper and participated in golf and basketball as well as student government, elected vice-president his Senior year. He also drove a 1930'S Ford Roadster, tan in color, that his schoolmates seemed very proud of. Once, the school paper suggested that "Kay may be down with a bad bout of spring fever if he had to drive his car the whole two blocks to school". This may also be the reason Kenny was reported by the same paper to be the only person in the school district who was neither late to a class or missed a day of school, a true perfect attendance, at the time of his graduation. Musically, Kenny would one day play in the Marine Corps' 3rd Division Band.
Mr. Lowe had a sister, Theda Loree, who died after one day in this life, in 1926. His mother, Grace (Daymude) Lowe, passed in August, 1940, before the war started. Raymond Kenneth Lowe, Kenny Lowe's father, passed away in 1953, leaving Kenny's younger brother, Arthur, 22, to carry on alone.

Entered the service December 4, 1940, U.S.M.C.

Served May 6, 1941 to December 22, 1943 U.S.S. Saratoga
