My 2nd great grandfather was the son of Elizabeth Snellbaker (Snailbaker/Snelbaker) and unknown.

Edward was a Civil War veteran having enrolled in Company H of the 12th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on August 13, 1862, and was mustered in as a Private on September 4, 1862. He served until his honorable muster out after the conclusion of the war on June 4, 1865. According to his pension file he stood 5 feet 9 inches tall, had black hair and blue eyes.

Obituary published in Woodstown newspaper "The Monitor-Register" on Friday, February 2nd 1912, pg. 1:
"Edward Snelbaker, who had been in poor health for two or three years, from the infirmities of age, died last Sunday, aged 77 years. He was a native of and had been a resident of this community nearly all his life, except one year in Salem. He was raised and lived for many years in the Cawley family, and resided for seventeen years on the Cawley farm. At the breaking out of the Civil War he enlisted as a member of Co. H, Twelfth New Jersey Regiment, and served three years. His wife was Lydia P. Cain, and they had been married fifty six years. When they had been married fifty years they had not one death in the family. They have seven children living, five sons and two daughters, all being married. He was a member of the Order of the United American Mechanics, who have been most attentive to his needs during his illness.
He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, being brought in late in life, and maintained a faithful life to the close. The funeral was held on Wednesday, with services in the church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. C. Kulp. Interment was made in the Baptist Cemetery."
