You are taking a random walk through our online cemetery.
Birth: Jun. 23, 1851
Calhoun County
Mississippi, USA
Death: Oct. 2, 1952
White Deer
Carson County
Texas, USA

Daughter of Allen E. Barr b. August 28, 1811 and Jane Palace Campbell b. May 3, 1820.

Married J. A. Quitman Palmer on September 9, 1869 in Mississippi. The couple had 11 children: Walter Sprague, Thomas Cole, Sion Eugene "Gene", Eulela "Lela" Jane, Jefferson Allen, Robert Ira, George Luther, Blanche Julia, Ora Stone, Auby Ershail, and Vickie Belle.

Betty and Quitman Palmer moved from Mississippi to Bell County, Texas soon after they married and to Mills County, Texas in 1878. Attracted by the opening of new lands in Oklahoma Territory they later settled at Elmer.

Betty Palmer moved from Elmer, Oklahoma to Memphis, Texas in 1912 where she lived until 1941. After that time she lived with her daughters in Pampa, Texas, Amarillo, Texas, Dallas, Texas, and White Deer, Texas.

From the Amarillo Daily News, Amarillo, Texas, October 3, 1952:
"Oldest Panhandle Woman Dies at 101"

"The oldest resident of the Panhandle, Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer of White Deer, died at 10 AM today."

"Mrs. Palmer celebrated her 100th birthday at a family reunion on June 23, 1951. At that time, she vividly recalled events in her life, from her childhood and youth--greatly affected by the war between the states--to the White Deer tornado only two weeks before in which her home was demolished while she and (her daughter) took refuge beneath blankets and pillows on a bed."

When she was a child in Mississippi she remained at home "with her mother and sisters while her father, three brothers and her sweetheart left to fight under the Confederate flag. One brother, Richmond, was killed in the battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse."
