Najle was my maternal grandfather. He emigrated from Lebanon to Argentina and his wife later joined him. They started from scratch and their life was very hard, having to endure poverty and even segregation. Over time they owed a general store and built the then only hotel in the very small town of San José de la Dormida (Córdoba). He loved fruit and planted several trees, peach, apple, fig, walnut, plumb, pomegranate and orange trees among others, on a land alongside his hotel. During their life together they lost a few children in early infancy but managed to raise three girls and one boy to adulthood. He was determined to have his offspring making something of themselves and that is how my mother (one of his daughters) became a teacher and one of my aunts became a dentist. His eldest daughter and his son both set up their own shops and bussinesses. Sadly, at only 56, he died of lung cancer.
