Ernest Lloyd Mackie, Ph.D. was born November 27, 1893 in Yadkin County, North Carolina, the son of Ezra Columbus Mackie and Anise Melissa Hinshaw Mackie. He married Romagna Adeline Gallaway Mackie of Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, and they had two children, William Ernest Mackie and Anne Mackie Fitzgibbon.
Dr. Mackie was a mathematics professor and dean at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. A collection of his papers is at the University of North Carolina library.
He died April 18, 1972 in Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina and was buried at the New Garden Friends Cemetery in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina. His wife is buried at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, near her parents.
