Delia Luisa Gomez first came to the United States when she was 15 years old. Delia served in the Women's Army Corps during WWII. She met and married John Thomas Bartell in 1947. They were divorced in 1953. They had one child, Robert A Bartell. She raised Bob as a single mother, working as many as three jobs at a time to make ends meet. Late in life she met and married a man she truly loved, Joseph Carmen Diaz. He passed away in 1982. Delia was very close to Joe's family, considering his family hers. Delia passed away in Tucson, Arizona, where she had moved to be close to her son. Her remains were returned to Santa Monica for burial beside Joseph. She truly enjoyed life and people and they all enjoyed her.
