A Virtual Cemetery created by The Lady in Black

McGregor Mission/Institute

The McGregor Mission was founded by Thomas & Elizabeth McGregor. They first opened a mission in Toledo, Ohio to help homeless and needy men. Thomas decided to open a mission in Detroit as well, and, after Thomas' untimely death, his son Tracy took over the mission. For the next 45 years, Tracy was involved with the mission, first named The Mission for Homeless Men (McGregor Mission) and later the McGregor Institute. His wife, Katherine (Whitney) McGregor, assisted him in this endeavor, and did much charitable work on her own, making a name for herself as a volunteer and organizer who could be counted on to aid the needy and helpless families of Detroit. The McGregor Institute is now known as the McGregor Fund, and exists to this day. This virtual cemetery honors the works of the McGregors, and the men who are buried at Woodmere that were helped by them. There are two monuments: one in Section D (a small one facing Section L, over the hill from the Whitney Mausoleum in Section F); and a very large one in Section Four. Tracy and Katherine McGregor are included in this virtual cemetery. They are buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit. May they all rest in peace.
