The Crew of B-17 'Patches'

Dedicated to the crew of B-17 "Flying Fortress" aircraft No. 42-31216, nicknamed "Patches", who were attached to the 331st Squadron of the 94th Bomb Group, 8th USAAF assigned to Rougham Airfield, Bury St. Edmonds, Great Britain during WWII. The men took part in the bombing raid on Brunswick, Germany, on January 11, 1944 and were shot down by enemy fighter planes. All but the tail gunner, Joe Smith, survived & were POWs for the duration of the war.
