Firefighters Killed - Gulf Oil Refinery; Philadelphia, PA - August 17-18, 1975

A horrific 11-alarm fire that occurred at the Gulf Oil Refinery in South Philadelphia. The call was received at 6:04 A. M. August 17, 1975 and the fire would not be declared under control under 4:41 P. M. August 18, 1975. The cause of the fire was determined that Tank 231 was overfilled with crude oil and hydrocarbon vapors accumulated and ignited. This is an oversimplification of this event.
