New Mount Ida veterans

Veterans interred at New Mount Ida Cemetery on Pinewoods Avenue; the historical marker at the cemetery states "Over 150 veterans buried here who served in the Civil War, Spanish American War, Indian Wars, WWI and WWII". A number of men died in action, or as a result of injuries or illnesses obtained during their service. A number of other veterans were recorded as having been interred at the cemetery in lists published in Troy newspapers but who do not seem to have headstones transcribed by local genealogists. That could mean the headstones were illegible, flat and buried, or that they were reinterred elsewhere. E.g.: "Their Last Resting-Place; Where the Veterans are Buried—Under the Tents of Green—Soldiers' Graves to be Decorated." Troy Daily Times. May 28, 1885: 1 cols 4-5." "memorials for Troy veterans 1872-1885". Oscar Appaly (1841-1864), for example, had been interred in New Mount Ida Cemetery but was at some point reinterred to Oakwood Cemetery.
