Paper Mill Blows up

Excerpts from the "Sterling Standard", Thursday Jan. 29, 1891PAPER MILL BLOWN UP.On Tuesday evening Rock Falls was the scene of the most terrible disaster that ever befel this section. At about 6:30 o'clock p.m., a terrible explosion was heard, which shook doors, windows, and even buildings all over Rock Falls. Many people rushed into the street thinking it was an earthquake shock, but it was speedily discovered that the bleach at the Rock Falls Paper Mill had exploded; totally destroying the building and burying in the ruins all the employees. The immense building was an absolute, a total wreck, the tall smoke stack alone remaining intact.
