Allen Leamon Burdette, 83, of Barboursville was called home to the Lord on December 12th, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital following a sudden illness. He was surrounded by family.

A native of Belle, WV, Allen is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Aiken Burdette and Naomi Faye Goodwin Burdette and his siblings Preston, Francis, Okey, Harry, Howard, and Mary; his father and mother-in law Frank and Maycel Hodge, his dear friend and brother-in-law Bob Smith, and his nephew Andy Hodge.

Surviving Allen is a grieving and loving family: his true love and wife of 62 years, Elizabeth, whom he affectionately referred to as "my bride"; his brother Bob and sister Deanie; his children and their spouses Allen and Johnda, Kathy and William, and Nancy and William; a niece and a nephew to whom he was a second father, Gary and Elaine; his 5 grandchildren Andria, Lindsey, Ashley, Amy, and John; 2 step-grandchildren Peyon and Shanna; and 2 great-grandchildren, Benjamin Allen and Bryn.

Allen leaves behind the legacy of a lifetime of service to his community and country: service in the United States Navy (WWII); Scoutmaster Troup 85, Boy Scouts of America; Membership and Mentoring in various union and apprenticeship boards; Membership in Order of the Masons (32nd Degree), and Sunday School teaching.

Since his retirement, Allen and Libby were very active as volunteers at the Jeffrey George Comfort (Hospitality) House in Huntington. At the Comfort House, Allen served as one of the chief fundraisers, chairman of the board, and chairman of the building facility. He loved his work at the house and the mission it provided to others.

Allen attended Steele Memorial United Methodist Church in Barboursville, WV. He retired from Raytheon Corporation in Belpre, OH in 1997. Allen was a 1945 graduate of DuPont High School and attended WV State University and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.

Allen was the recipient of countless honors and awards in his lifetime. Most recently, he and his wife Elizabeth were awarded the honor of Distinguished West Virginians and the prestigious 35th Star Award in February by the Office of the Governor, which is bestowed upon seniors making a significant contribution to their community.

A man of tremendous faith and humility, Allen felt and often remarked to others that his greatest reward and achievement was his family, of whom he was immensely proud.

Family and Friends will gather for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 3 to 6 PM at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday December 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Dr. John Sauvage and Rev. Ralph Sager officiating. Entombment will follow the service with Masonic Rites conducted by the Western Sun Masonic Lodge #91, Wheelersburg, Ohio at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
