Billy Ray Layne, 74, of Fincastle, passed away Friday, November 19, 2004.

Mr. Layne had retired in 1992 from Singer Furniture and was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Nininger Layne; parents, Joshua William and Fannie Bell Sweet Layne; four brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Lana Kidd of Covington, Billy and Kathie Layne of Troutville, Ronnie and Annie Layne of Roanoke, Marty and Cindy Layne of Raphine; daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara K. Chesnut of Clifton Forge, Joanie and Mike Unroe of Eagle Rock, Stacy and Tommy Herrell of Fincastle; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Wright, Mae and A.R. Coffey, all of Eagle Rock, Grace Vess, Jenny and Theodore Nicely, all of Clifton Forge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, June and Shirley Nininger of Jefferson, Maryland, Wayne and Bobbie Nininger of Eagle Rock; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2004 in Mount Pleasant (White Church) United Methodist Church with the Rev. Danny Kesler officiating.

Interment will follow in church cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Stephen, Darren, and Chad Chesnut, Rocky and Jason Tolley, and Josh Layne.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14777 Church Street, 884-2276.
