Reverend Mark A. Young was born on March 14, 1926 in Stamford, Texas to Joseph Mark and Mildred Young.
He died at noon Thursday, October 09, at a local hospice facility after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel, Monday October 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. As he requested there will be no viewing and a closed casket service.


After graduating from Rising Star Texas High School in 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a radioman aboard the USS Vincennes and almost a year on Guam.

When he was discharged he worked as a telegrapher/depot agent for the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railroad for 28 years.

He also served as a bi-vocational pastor for small Southern Baptist churches in Oklahoma and Alabama.


After retiring from the CRI&P and moving to Florida in 1974 he worked Civil Service at the Navy base. When he retired for the second time he attended George Stone vocational School to learn heating and air conditioning and opened the Young Heating and Air Conditioning Service.

He retired for the third time in 2004.


He was a 50 plus year member of the Oklahoma Ancient Free and Accepted Masons (AF&AM) serving as Worshipful Master in lodges in Holdenville and Hydro, Oklahoma.


His survivors are his widow, Joyce of the home and four children, Larry (Janette) of San Diego, CA, Rebecca Sue "Suzie" of the home, Kenneth (Jan) of Pensacola and Vicki (Johnnie) Borden of Hinton Oklahoma.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Evan, Paul, Whitney, Emma and Tara Young, Jessica Borden Nuse and Tamra Borden Stephens; 5 great grandchildren, one brother, Bobby Joe Young of Carlsbad, NM. Also a very special brother and sister-in-law, Fletcher and Sherri Fleming of Pensacola and numerous nephews and nieces.


Pallbearers will be his sons, son-in-law, grandsons and Fletcher Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles "Chuck" Farrell and members of Reverend Young's Sunday school class at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.



Reverend Ron Lentine will be conducting the services and his favorite singer, Ronda Boutwell, will sing his favorite songs, "The King is Coming" and "My Tribute".


In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens on 10th Avenue where his daughter, Suzie, has been a client for more than 30 years.
