Former Emporians Killed
News has been received of the death Thursday of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence E. Getz of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Emporia. Mr. Getz, who was born and raised in Emporia, was the son of Mrs. Wesley E. (Helen Berrie) Getz, 124 South Mechanic St., and the late Mr. Getz. He and his wife were employed as drivers by the Tanksley Truck Company of Cape Girardeau and they were fatally injured in an accident near Memphis, Tenn. They were on assignment as a driving team.
Mr. Getz was born March 13th, 1942, in Emporia, and he was married on June 30th, 1961, in San Francisco, Calif. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia. He is survived by three children, Lawrence Jr., Debra and Tawnya, of the home; his mother; one sister, Mrs. Duane (Jeanette) Schmidt, Rt. 1, Olpe; his maternal grandmother, Sally Berrie, of the Emporia Rest Home, an aunt and uncle, Mrs. W.F. Schwantes, 624 Washington St., and W.H. Getz, 632 Chestnut St., and a half-sister, Winifred Rice, Tulsa, Okla.
Mrs. Getz, the former Marie H. Alden, was born Dec. 31st., 1942 in Portland, Ore. She is survived by the children; her father, W.C. Alden, Fellows, Calif.; her mother, Geneva Alden Rowe, Roseburg, Ore.; two brothers, David Alden, Oregon City, Ore., and Curtis Alden, Fort Carson, Colo., and two sisters, Geraldine Lingenfelder, Eureka, Calif., and Velita Rowe, Roseburg.
Funeral services will be held in Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel in Emporia, with the time to be announced.
