LAKELAND - Stephen Elisha Altman of Lakeland, Florida, died Sunday morning in a fatal traffic accident, while on his way to Sunday School. He was gifted to us by God on April 22, 1995, and crossed over the river on November 4, 2012.
Stephen attended International Baccalaureate at Bartow High School his Freshman through junior years, where he very actively played trumpet in the band, under the direction of Mr. Jon Eckman, whom he highly respected and admired. He also enjoyed the French Club and Frisbee Club.
For his senior year, he transferred to Kathleen High School, where he once again, was active in the band. He was looking forward to an exciting year, playing under the direction of Ms. Eich, the band director there. He faithfully attended Victory Church, where he was active in Royal Rangers, a boys to men leadership mentoring program similar to the Boy Scouts. He was very well respected and loved by his family, and many fellow students and teachers.
He is survived by his father, Wade S. Altman, his mother Victoria Valverde Altman, his sister, Esther Altman, and his two brothers, Evan and Jonathan Altman, all of Lakeland. He is also survived by his grandmothers Mildred Altman, of Lakeland, and Judith Ortiz Machado, of Lima, Peru.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Victory Church, Griffin Road, Lakeland, with burial to follow at Oak Hill Burial Park. Friends are invited to the visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, his parents are requesting donations, to help offset funeral expenses, and for a motorcycle awareness foundation that will be created in Stephen's memory.
