ANTWERP- Eugene M. "Short" Aldrich, age 74, of Antwerp, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at University Hospital in Syracuse.

Calling hours will be on Friday, November 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. His funeral service will be on Saturday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Beth Benham of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Hailesboro Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Short was born on March 1, 1938 in Gouverneur to the late Maurice T. and Lillian T. (Gibson) Aldrich. He attended Gouverneur Central School.

Short married Sue E. Shepherd of Fullerville on May 14, 1960. The couple resided in Gouverneur from 1960-1970 then moved to Antwerp. Mr. Aldrich was employed by Ausbury, McAllester and DI Bush Fuel Co. over the years until he started his own furnace cleaning and repair business. Eugene enjoyed fishing and being around his friends and family.

Surviving besides his wife, is a daughter, Janet Aldrich of Philadelphia; two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Aldrich and Randy and Shelley Aldrich all of Antwerp; a grandson, Kevin McKnight and three great grandchildren also of Antwerp; six brothers, Olan of Mechanicsville, Maurice of Greenwich, NY, Donald of Ocala, FL, Ronald of Troy, Richard of Black River and Terry of Mechanicsville; four sisters, Lois Canning of Winter Springs, FL, Francis Miller of Fine, Luava Culbertson of Greenwich, NY and Carol Cunningham of Oxbow.

A sister, Marlene Robinson of Philadelphia died before him.
