BIOGRAPHY (updated June 24, 2022)

The Diocese of La Crosse, Arcadia Deanery, St. Bartholomew Parish, Trempealeau WI Bk.1, Deaths/Burials, 1874-1913 documents a Mrs. Mary Ryan who died 1903--9 Febr. and was buried 1903--11 Febr. The "Age at death" and "Parents/Spouse" information blocks were left blank.

The 1981 Dimmick Family "Monument Reading Map" identified a "Mrs. John Ryan" grave marker located between Raphael "Ralph" Grignon 1861-1923 [gravesite 3] and Camilla Theresa (Grignon) Dederich 1860-1917 [gravesite 5].

The 1900 United States Federal Census for Trempealeau Village enumerates:
Mary Ryan, Wife, 76-yr-old white married female, married 44 years. Birth Month and Year:April 1824. Self, father and mother born in Ireland. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1852. Lived in U.S. for 48 years. Naturalization column [blank] Mother of 3 children, 2 still living.
John Ryan, Head of Household, 71-yr-old white married male, married 44 years. Birth Month and Year:June 1828. Self, father and mother born in Ireland. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1848. Lived in U.S. for 52 years. Naturalized Citizen.

The 1995 "Old Cemetery deaths" printout shows her burial in Lot 13 - Gravesite 3; however, her grave marker is located in Lot 13 - Gravesite 4.

Additional research at Ancestry.com and archived newspapers finds her maiden name to be Scanlon.
