John C. Hoag was born in Warsaw, Indiana, January 18, 1854, and died on August 28, 1920, at his home near Rose, Kansas, at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 10 days. He came to Kansas with his parents at the age of 7 years where he grew to manhood in Franklin county and was married to Ida Upson on March 7, 1876. To this union, was born nine children, Mrs. S. R. Taylor, of Chanute; Alva A. and Daniel L., of Yates Center; Mrs. R. O. Carr and Mrs. R. C. Rodgers, of Yates Center; Mrs. G. P. Taylor and John O. Hoag, of Rose; Mrs. T. R. Elane, of Buffalo and Mrs. E. F. McLaren, of Rose, all of whom are now living and was at his bedside when he passed away. Also 34 grand children of whom 29 are now living. Also two brothers and two sisters, Grant, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Layfette, of Altoona, Kansas; Mrs. Daniel Hinderliter, of Ottawa, Kans., and Mrs. J. M. Cartzdafner. He leaves a host of othe relatives and friends and was loved by all who knew him.
He was converted at the age of 18 years and has been a faithful member of the M. E. church of Rose until the time of his death. He was held in high regard and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Rose, conducted by Rev. C. V. Shulenberger. Interment was in the Buffalo Cemetery.
