Charlotte Sue Butler, 79, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Ray and Clara Shoun Estep.

Mrs. Butler was a 1951 graduate of Unaka High School and was a longtime supporter of the Unaka High School Athletic Department. She was a member of the Ladies Basketball Team and was known as "Big Don" and "Sue Baby."

Sue took her nursing training at the Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Banner Elk, N.C. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was employed at Carter County Memorial Hospital and Sycamore Shoals Hospital for 57 years in the Surgical Department.

Sue was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Directors of the Happy Valley Credit Union. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post No. 2166.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Wellborn.
