Ed was raised in the Mankato-Webber area. In 1937, when he was 11 years old, the family moved to Webber because his mother liked living in the hills better than the plains. He learned plumbing, and later returned to direct sales, he began working in 1975, selling Lawson hardware products to his 5,400 customers and always remembering everyone's names. Ed received more than 30 trophies and award plaques during his 26 years. He belonged to the Great Plains Division which included Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota. He won trips to Hawaii, Missouri, California, Wyoming and Iowa.
