John E. Adams, 88, of rural Delphi, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at 7:05 p.m., at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center-Delphi. He had been a resident there for the past 3 weeks, and in failing health. He was born January 21, 1924, in Norton, Va., to the late Bradley and Mae Thacker Adams. His marriage was to Ruth M. Harber in Norton, Va., on May 7, 1942, and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1997.

He attended school in Norton, and was a U.S. Army WW II Veteran, serving in the European Theater. He and his family moved to Delphi from Norton in 1954. He worked for 30 years at the former National Homes-Lafayette, retiring from there. While living in Norton, Va., he worked in the coal mines for 12 years. He attended a Southern Baptist Church in Va. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and country music. He dearly loved his family, and enjoyed all of his grandchildren, and their activities.

Surviving is two sons, Bill (wife: Sue) Adams and Dennis (wife: Cheryl) Adams, both of Delphi; three sisters, Pearl Bright, of Norton, Va., Polly Ray, of Spartanburg, S.C. and Shirley (husband: Cam) McAllister, of Manassas, Va.; three brothers, Carl Adams, of Fort Wayne, Bruce Adams, of Norton, Va. And Doug and Patsy Adams Norton, Va.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by three brothers.

Friends may call Sunday from 1pm until his funeral at 3 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home-Delphi; Pastor Gilbert Kerrigan officiating. Burial at IOOF Memorial Gardens-Pittsburg, with Delphi and Camden American Legions, and Delphi VFW military rites. Memorial contributions to the Carroll County Cancer Association, envelopes available at the funeral home.
