Carl McWhite Baker
Carl McWhite Baker, 69, retired shop foreman for Piedmont Lumber Co. and resident of 23 S. Washington Rd., Westview Heights, died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. in a local hospital following one week of serious illness. Mr. Baker had been in declining health for several years. Mr. Baker was a native of Greenville County and a son of the late Wilson and Frances McWhite Baker. He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. Mr. Baker was twice married. His first wife was Mrs. Lela Smith Baker, who died May, 1926. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eula Mae James Baker; two daughters, Mrs. Walter Lee Rogers of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. R. G. Lochner of Mount Holly, N. J.; one son, Edgar Baker of the home address; one sister, Mrs. W. H. Chiles of Easley, Rt. 3, and one brother, C. W. Baker of Greenville, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at Welcome Baptist Church at 4 p.m. today by the Rev. W. B. Bolt. Burial will be in Springwood Cemetery. The following nephews will serve as pallbearers; Billy James, Welborn McWhite, John Simmons, Ray James, Perry Thompson and O. D. Howell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Convention Class of Welcome Baptist Church and E. L. Wilson, John Harling, Joe Dean and Henry Graves. The body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m. today to remain until the hour of the services. Prior to that time it will be at the mortuary, R. D. Jones & Sons, funeral directors, are in charge.
