Florence C. Hamlin was born March 9, 1864 in Putnam county, near St. John and departed this life Sept 20, 1914. Aged 50 years 6 months and 11 days. When about seventeen years old she was made happy in a Savior's love. She was recieved for baptism by the Baptist church at St. John Sept 4, 1904, and on the 8th was baptized and recieved into the fellowship of the church. Like Christ, she visited the sick, ministered to those in want and assisted in healing the broken hearted. Christ was her all in all and to do His will was her supreme delight. She was married to Geo. D. Smith April 2nd, 1882. To this union ten children were born, five boys and five girls. One daughter, Nellie C., while just a child, preceded her to the spirit world. She leaves a faithful companion and nine children; Ernest C., Effie B. Putnam, Lloyd A., Johnnie E., Geo. Emmitt, Loren E., Florence F., Ora H. and Nettie O., a mother, three brothers, four sisters and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. The funeral was held Tuesday Sep 22 at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Hope church, by P.W. Roper, Pastor, in the presence of a large congregation of sympathizing friends after which the remains were conveyed to the Torrey cemetery where they were laid to rest.
