Edward E. Allen, Tubular Wells and Windmills, Mears, was born in Lorain County, Ohio in 1846. He lived here until he was 18 yrs. old, when he enlisted in Co. A, 2nd Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Feb. 8, 1864, and served ntil Sept 11, 1865, having been in some hot battles, such as Winderness, Spotsylvania and Appomattox. After a year's residence in Monroe County, he came to Golden and homesteaded a farm on section 27. About nine years ago he bought a home in Mears, and went into the well and windmill business, also handling farm implements. One year ago Charles Blohm was taken into partnership in the windmill and well business, and they gave eminently successful work. They handled the Star Mill brands. Mr Allen has held several offices of trust such as supervisor, school inspector, justice and drain commnissioner. He was married in October 1868 to Caroline Briggs.
