RICE – Ira Webster, 79, formerly of Uniontown and Johnstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday Nov. 8, 2012, at Country Meadows Nursing Center, Bethlehem, Pa. Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Johnstown, son of Joseph and Ethel (Rager) Rice. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Ruth Marie (Pavlo) Rice; son, Jeffrey I. Rice; and sisters, Rachel Rose, Theresa Thomas and Josephine Owens. Survived by loving daughter, Susan Bero, and husband, James, Bethlehem; grandchildren, James L. Bero Jr., and wife, Erin, Louisville, Ky.; Alyse Marie Haren, and husband, Brian, Fairfield, Ohio; and Rachel McMahon, and husband, Brian, West Chester, Ohio; and great- granddaughter, Avery Marie Bero. Ira was a faithful member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Uniontown, and a graduate of Johnstown High School, Class of 1951. After graduation, he worked for the Johnstown Plant of Bethlehem Steel, Forge and Axle Plant. He joined the Naval Reserves in 1951, was activated in December 1952, served on U.S. Barton DD 722 during Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in December 1955. He enlisted with the Pennsylvania State Police May 3, 1954, and served in Troop B Washington and at Waynesburg, Belle Vernon, Carnegie and Uniontown stations. Ira served as president of FARC, St. Peter's Lutheran Church Council and Twin Trees of Connellsville. Past Master of the Fayette Lodge 228, Thrice Potent Master Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and Past Grand Tall Cedars Fayco Forest No. 152. Member of Supreme Council 33rd Degree, Pittsburgh Consistery. Life member of Lodge 47, FOP. Member of the former VFW Post 47 of Uniontown and AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, Pa. A 25-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Friends received from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Broad Street. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, where Conemaugh Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League will hold military honors.
