ABBOTT, Robert E. Age 91, went home to be with the Lord on July 8, 2012, at The Woodlands of Hamilton, OH. Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 2, 1921. He served in the Army Air Corps from March 1942 to January 1946 during World War II. Bob graduated from Hofstra University Hempsted, NY. He retired from the US Department of Labor in 1982 as a Regional Manager in the United States Employment Service. Bob enjoyed volunteering at Fort Hamilton Hughes Hospital for many years. He also volunteered in serving "meals on wheels" in Arlington, VA and in Hamilton. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Milton and Julia Abbott and his sister Virginia. Also, preceding Bob in death was his wife Dorothea (Epp) Abbott in 1999, and his second wife Phyllis Abbott in 2007. Bob is survived by his daughter Diane (Thomas) Steele, two grandchildren, Katharine of Cincinnati and David of Fort Valley, VA and one great grandson Ethan of Hamilton. Also surviving stepson Warren (Norma) Apgar of Fairfield Township and stepdaughter Linda Williams of Monroe, OH and many other step-grandchildren and their families. The family would like to thank Evercare Hospice and the caring staff of The Woodlands of Hamilton for their passionate care given to Bob and his family during this difficult period of time in his life. A memorial service will be conducted at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 801 Park Avenue, Hamilton, OH on Thursday July 12, 2012, at 2:00 in the afternoon. Pastors Barbara Dafler of Park Avenue UMC and Ken Dugas of Allison Avenue Baptist Church will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Park Avenue UMC memorial fund or to the Allison Avenue Baptist Church building fund at 5912 Allison Ave. Fairfield Township.
