He graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1940 and was employed at the J. G. Ott Packaging Company before entering the military.
A veteran of World War II, Eugene entered the service August 1942. Following training as a radio operator, he was assigned to the Ninth Tactical Air Command, providing air support for the US First Army. He was sent to Sydney, Australia and participated in engagements in New Guinea and other areas in the Pacific. Eugene reached the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in Nov 1945.
In 1947, Mr. Aurand co-founded the Blue Ridge Steel in Selinsgrove, retiring in May 1982. He was a bugler for the American Legion and a member of American Legion Post 25, Selinsgrove; St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove; and the World War II Last Man's Club, Selinsgrove.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael E. Aurand of Shamokin Dam and Jerry Maurer of Selinsgrove RD5; four grandchildren; two brothers, Robert W. of Mount Pleasant Mills and Harold E. of Long Beach, CA; and one sister, Mrs. Gloria B. Stewart of Lakewood, CA.
The funeral will be at Seebold Funeral Home, Selinsgrove. Burial will be in the Reformed Cemetery, Kratzerville.
