Robert P. Bailey Robert P. Bailey, 77, formerly of Clymer, N.Y. died on Tuesday, December 7, 2004, in the Fountainview Retirement Village in Holland, Mich. He was born in Portland, N.Y. on December 25, 1926, a son of the late John A. Bailey and Bertha E. Matie Bailey Shaffer. Mr. Bailey moved to Warren, Pa. with his family where he was raised and educated. As a young man, he served with the U. S. Navy during WW II . He served in the Pacific Theater and was stationed in Pearl Harbor. Following his discharge from the military he graduated from Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse, N.Y. in 1950. He worked as a funeral director in Gloversville, N.Y. prior to moving to Clymer, N.Y. in 1957 when he began his career in funeral service as a funeral director for the Spitzer Funeral Home. He worked there until his retirement in the early 1990's. He has resided in the Holland, Mich. area for the past four years. He is a member of the Abbe Reformed Church in Clymer, N.Y., the B.P.O.E., Corry Lodge and the VFW Post # 264 in Corry, Pa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Velma King Bailey on May 14, 1994. They were married in Clymer, N.Y. in 1946. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mae Hamm; and by a brother, John A. Bailey, Jr. He is survived by a daughter, Gwynne Vanderwall and her husband, Jerry, of Holland, Mich.; by two sisters, Marjorie Mills of Jacksonville, Fla. and Shirley Davis of Sugar Grove, Pa.; by a brother, Chester Bailey of Bear Lake, Pa.; by two grandsons, Robert Vanderwall of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jeffry Vanderwall and his wife, Kimberly, of Linden, Mich.; and by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a funeral service there on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Rough of Clymer, N.Y. will officiate. Burial will be made in Holland Cemetery in Clymer, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clymer Fire Department, Clymer, NY 14724 or to the Hospice of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd., Holland, MI 49423.
