John Morice
After a period of more than 20years of indifferent health, Mr. John Morice, practically a lifelong resident of the township of Normaby, where he was born 66 years ago, passed away at his home at Varney last Friday afternoon. Up to the time he was taken ill, the late Mr. Morice had engaged in farming, the most of the time being spent on the second of Normanby. In 1900 he was married to Miss Annie Fee of Normanby, and after their marriage they moved to Lumsden, Sask., where they remained for two years before returning to the East. After returning to their native township, Mr. and Mrs. Morice took up farming where the remained until eight years ago when they purchased the general store at Varney. Surviving are Mrs. Morice three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Thoms E Stewart (Alma), of Varney, Ted, Murray and Claire, at home, and Mrs. George Cupski (Merle), Hepworth. One brother, Robert Morice, Biggar, Sask.; and three sisters Mrs. William Petty Bentinck; Mrs. Robert Ferguson, Fergus, and Mrs. George Green, Guelph, also survive.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from Varney United church, a large number being present to pay a last tribute to an esteemed citizen. The services at church and graveside were conducted by Rev. Mr. Mercer of Holstein and Rev. Mr. Honeyman of Dromore. The pall bearers were Alex Smith, W. Carson, J. Petty, W. McNaughton, Albert marshall, Elmer Fee and W. Backus. Interment was in Maplewood cemetery.
