Calamine- Catherine A. Acherman, age 88 of Calamine died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 2, 2000, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. The former Catherine Agnes McGuire was born December 29, 1911 in Willow Springs Township to James and Ellen (McCarten) McGuire. She was married to the late Francis "Frank" Acherman on June 12, 1934 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine. Frank died June 17, 1962. Catherine was a foster grandmother at the Darlington Day Care for 15 years. She also worked at Dick's Supermarket and the Burgess Battery in Mineral Point. Catherine was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and of its Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her children, Frank (Allene) Acherman of Truman, James (Shirley) Acherman of Calamine, John (Diane) Acherman of Waukesha, and Michael (Mary Jo) Acherman of Mineral Point; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Henry and Irenus McGuire.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Calamine with Fr. Monte Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 8 pm on Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at the Steil Camacho Funeral Home, Darlington, where a rosary service will be held at 3 pm.
