Edward D Greene/Green was born around 1838 in Montgomery Co., KY to Dr. Richard D. Greene and Elizabeth J. Wright. He appears with this couple in multiple census records and is named in his mother's will, dated May 11, 1868 and recorded on April 11, 1879 (Montgomery Co. KY Will Book F, p.534-537).

Edward Greene married Louisa E. Davenport, the daughter of Dr. Rawleigh W. Davenport and Louisa Price, some time between July 1860 (when Edward is listed as unmarried on the census) and October 1863, when his draft record lists him as married (U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865, Kentucky, 9th Congressional District, Vol 1, p144). Unfortunately, the state of Kentucky did not require ministers to submit marriage records during this time period; however, Edward & Louisa appear together on the 1870 census and their children's marriage records list their names.

Edward and Louisa had 3 known children together, all born in or near Lexington in Fayette Co., KY.

1. Walter Scott Greene (1864-1937), m. Mary Elizabeth "Minnie" Woodall December 12, 1889 in Richmond, VA
2. Margaret "Maggie" Price Greene (1870-1937), m. Dr. James P. Turner on April 3, 1895 in Lexington, KY
3. Nannie H. Greene (1880-1928), 1st m. Hugh Nichols about 1902; 2nd. m. George Gross October 12, 1921 in Lawrence, OH.

After Louisa died in 1883, Edward remarried to Josie Ann Richardson on September 20, 1886 in Montgomery Co., KY. They had one known child together:
1. Stanley Thomas Greene (1891-1959), married Jennie L. Carragan Sept 18, 1911 in Louisville, KY. After she died from apparent complications from childbirth, he married a second time to Lelia White on October 16, 1913 in Clark Co., IN.

According to a newspaper report, Edward D. Green died suddenly on Sunday, March 27 in Davis & Robertson's drug store where he had gone for aid, apparently of the heart trouble from which he'd been suffering (Lexington Herald-Leader (Lexington, Kentucky) on Monday, March 28, 1892, Page 4). The Lexington Cemetery records the date of his burial service as March 29, 1892. A few days later on March 31st, his widow Josie was named executrix of his estate after entering into bond with her step-son Walter S. Greene, Edward's oldest child from his first marriage (Fayette Co., KY Order Book Volume 26, p334). Josie is listed as a step-mother to Walter in a 1908 newspaper article about his accomplishments (Lexington Herald-Leader (Lexington, Kentucky, Thursday April 9, 1908, page 2; this same article also lists siblings of Walter as well as his uncle Dr. Frank Greene), but Josie's death date and burial location have not been found to date.
