He is survived by his mother, Frances; his father, David and wife Mary Ann; brothers, Brandon, Cody, Jonathan; and sister, Rachel; grandmothers, Loretta Newton and Mattie Butler; along with loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Joey loved being in the outdoors with family and friends. On any given weekend he could be found playing hacky sack across Texas with his best friends and teammates. He was also a talented poet and musician.
