Maria Rodgers, daughter of John and Elizabeth Rodgers, was born on March 9, 1796, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She married John Baker on May 16, 1816, in her hometown. They moved, with their children, to Louisville, Kentucky, where John worked as a coachmaker. John died on May 19, 1854 of drowning. It is possible that Mary returned to Philadelphia during the Civil War. Prior to her death, she had moved to New Albany, Indiana. Maria died of consumption on May 13, 1867, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 71. She is buried next to her husband in Cave Hill Cemetery, Section N, Lot 83.
