ROBERT BASKETTE DROPS DEAD ON THE STREET
Falls In Front of Adams' Express Office On His Way To Room.
Robert Baskette, 69 years of age, dropped dead last night at 8:30 in front of the Adams Express Company's office at 437 West Jefferson Street, while on his way to his room at Haag's rooming house at 528 West Market street. Mr. Baskette had been to see his son, John Baskette, a pharmacist employed at Taylor-Isaacs Drug Company at Third and Jefferson streets. The son sent Ed Lawles, a colored porter, to take him to his room. The colored man was assisting him down the street when he stumbled and fell and expired.
Dr. J. A. O. Brennan was called, but the man was beyond medical aid when he arrived. Dr. Brennan pronounced death due to cardiac paralysis.
Magistrate Edward O'Connor, Acting Coroner, viewed the body and ordered it removed to Cralle's undertaking establishment, where it will be prepared for burial. The funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Baskette is survived by three sons, Richard and John Baskette, of this city, and Lee Baskette of Charleston, W. Va. His wife died fifteen years ago.
