From 1887 to 1890, Jabez served in the Michigan Senate representing the 28th district.

From 1893 to 1895, he was the 27th Lieutenant Governor of Michigan.

On 14 February 1907, Tucson, Pima County, Arizona; Jabez married Emmalyn Madeline (Wright) Miller . They were granted a divorce on 14 June 1910 in Ingham County, Michigan.

On 27 July 1910, Romeo, Macon County, Michigan; Jabez married Anna L. Befell.

Later, Jabez became the editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican. At the time of his passing, he was the editor of the Taos Valley News. He passed away from hemorrhage/arteriosclerosis.
