He joined his brother-in-law, Oscar Stephen Bond, in his successful business, Bond Brothers, Inc., which was the nation's largest supplier of railroad cross ties in 1949. He was Vice President in charge of production. By 1957, when the business was sold to the H. K. Porter Company of Pittsburgh for $5 million, Bond Brothers, Inc. employed more than 3,000 and operated 29 lumber yards, 118 tie yards, and 24 sawmills in five states. When his brother-in-law died in 1971, he took over affairs for his surviving spouse, Mary Baird Bond, until his death in 1981.
