He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (WWII). From 1958 to 1985, he held positions with radio and television stations. Later, he was a real estate broker. He served as president of the North Carolina Board of Realtors. He was a past president of the Washington, NC, Kiwanis Club, a Boy Scout leader of Troop 99, and a Little League Baseball coach. He was the widower of Lucy Smith Culler (married 52 years). Additionally, he was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. He was survived by two sons and an extended family of relatives and friends.
