Yellowstone Park's own "Ranger Ted" finally "graduated" from "The School of Life" on December 5, 2004 at the age of 87.

He was the first-born of 11 children of Sedley W. and Kate Squires Parkinson on Feb. 19, 1917 in Plano, ID.

He married Maybelle Chapman who died in 1982. He later married Merridy Ayer who was with him until the end.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the China-Burma-India theater. He graduated from Ricks College and Brigham Young University.

He shared his philosophy of life with thousands of people over a period of more than 40 years on his nature walks and talks in Yellowstone Park, in schools, and at many Baha'i gatherings (the religion he embraced later in his life).

He is survived by his wife, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

Service to be held at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary at 2350 East 1300 South in Salt Lake City at 10:30 a.m. on December 11. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made in Ted's honor to the American Red Cross or to Nature Conservancy.
