Mary Rebecca Eakin Cantrell, 97, of Plainview, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Tim Marrow officiating and Mr. Danny Andrews assisting. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Mary was born February 7, 1915 in Running Water, TX, one of eight children born to John Perry and Mary Elizabeth (Daisy) Monsey Eakin, early settlers of Hale County. She grew up in the Running Water Community and graduated from high school there. She married Vernon Taylor Cantrell on May 14, 1932 in Clovis, NM. Vernon died in 1979.
Mary lived all her life in Hale County, mainly the Prairieview and Providence communities northeast of Plainview. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Mary is survived by a son, Vernon Cantrell, Jr. and wife Beth of Apple Springs, TX; two daughters, Linda Parks and Sandy Lindeman and husband Herman all of Plainview; three grandchildren, Craig & Jessica Parks of Katy, TX, Dondi & Kyle Walker of Possum Kingdom, TX and Cody Lindeman of Plainview; four great grandchildren, Allison & Emily Parks, and Madison & Kalon Walker; one sister-in-law, Betty Dillon of Nevada City, CA as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents, John and Mary Eakin; two sisters, Coila Eakin and Eva Hoover; three brothers, Ward, John and O'Keefe Eakin and a sister and brother who died in infancy.
