Aric Hughes Hiser, of Chicago, Illinois and formerly of North Olmsted and Lakewood, Ohio passed away on October 31, 2012 in Maywood, Illinois.
The beloved son of Ted Steven and Linda Lee Hiser (Hughes), he leaves the love of his life, partner, soul mate and best friend of fifteen years, Jeannine Marie Love; his cherished brother, Garrett Bevin Hiser; Jeannine's family who embraced him as their own; and a loving and supportive family of aunts, uncles, cousins as well as countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George VanGilder and Martha Jean Hughes (Stark), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Lakewood, Ohio; Clarence Harold and Helena Mae Hiser (Smith) of Tiffin, Ohio; and step grandmother, Edna Mae Hughes (Thomas).
Aric was a graduate of The Ohio State University earning a BFA degree with honors in art. He won several awards for his work in the medium of installation art. Following graduation, he was employed at MOCA, Cleveland as a gallery handler. Aric's portfolio later secured him a full tuition scholarship to the Master of Fine Arts degree program at The University of Maryland. His work in ink, photography, sculpture, performance and installation was deeply political, touchingly personal and intensely wry.
An active participant at the Beck Center for the Arts during his teen years, Aric appeared in numerous Children & Teen Theater productions and carried his joy of theater into several pieces of performance art at Ohio State. Aric loved surrounding himself with creativity and intellectual stimulation.
He enjoyed all forms of contemporary art from installation art to graphic novels and was as sharp and insightful an art critic as he was a talented artist. Aric was an accomplished self-taught musicologist who lived his life surrounded by music and constantly sought new sounds and auditory discoveries unlimited by time, geography, culture or genre.
Aric embraced a love of life and appreciation of the absurd throughout medical trials and personal triumphs and this fed his indomitable spirit.
