Retired Captain of the Los Angeles Police Dept. Homicide Division and former Chief of Police in Lakewood, Colorado & Springfield, Oregon. Considered one of law enforcement's top authorities on homicide and serial murder, a term which he originated. Founder and former head of the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program. Investigating officer of the case later profiled by author Joseph Wambaugh in his book, "The Onion Field", and portrayed by Ronny Cox in the film version. Noted author ("Officer Down-Code Three"- a widely used guidebook for law enforcement officers describing potentially dangerous situations and how to avoid them) and instructor. Technical advisor to actor Jack Webb on the "Dragnet" television series. Capt. Brooks was also a certified blimp pilot.

Brooks was the husband of Mrs. Joyce; the father of three children: Michael, Sandra, and Daniel; and grandfather to one grandson.Sargeant Pierce Brooks was born in California in nineteen twenty four. Not much is known about his early life. Pierce entered the police academy sometime between nineteen fifty and nineteen sixty. As a homicide detective Sargeant Brooks participated in many investigations. Including the Harvey Glatman murder and the murder investigation of his acquaintance Ian Campbell that became known as the 'Onion Field' case. His experience with the LAPD would later inspire Brooks to create the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program {also called "VICAP"}. Pierce Brooks died in nineteen ninety nine at the age of seventy-five.
