He was born December 1, 1949 in Ottumwa to Robert E."Bob"and Beverly Pickrell Garrett. He married Nancy Riddle in 1973. They later divorced. A 1969 graduate of Ottumwa High School, he had worked for John Deer Moline, Bloomfield Foundry, Ottumwa DOT and Garrett Heating & Air Conditioning. He had also worked as a brick layer. He had attended Albia Rd. Baptist Church. Steve was an avid amateur inventor, having a natural skill in working with electronis. He liked to play the quitar and enjoyed karaoke and roller skating. He was a kind and good hearted man.
Surviving are a son, Aaron(Heather)Garrett of North Liberty; three daughters, Amy(Jimmie)Post of Ottumwa, Angi Garrett of Des Moines and Amanda Brown(Richard Ainsworth)of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jenna, Jaxson and Nolan; two sisters, Rita(Jerry)Reed of Kansas City, KS and Christine(Martin)Rounceville of Ottumwa; two brothers, Dennis(Marcia)Garrett of Oroville, CA and Bobby Garrett of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Garrett and his mother, Beverly Garrett Hartley.
Funeral services will be 2 pm Saturday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 pm Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm Friday. Memorials may be made to the family.
