She was born September 7, 1925, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Harold and Beatrice (Novak) Rand. Elaine was raised in Omaha and was attending school at South High when her family moved to California when she was 16 years old. She moved back to Omaha in the early 1950s for a couple years, then they moved to Sparks, Nevada, for three years. After Nevada, she moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where she has made her home and remained.

Elaine was united in marriage on January 17, 1947, to Howard Eden in Jackson, Minnesota. She was very talented and she could work just about any job. As her children were growing up, she was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Scout Leader, and a substitute Sunday school teacher. Elaine enjoyed sewing, cross stitch work, cooking, baking and was overall a wonderful homemaker. She did not learn to drive a car until she was 54 years old as she spent most of her time raising her children.
