ELYSIAN — Leonard E. Berndt, 58, Route 1, died Saturday, November 13, at his farm home of an apparent heart attack while hunting.
He was born in Elysian Township, LeSueur County January 17, 1918, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. and Bertha (Meyer) Berndt. He attended rural schools and the Bell Lutheran Parochial School. He farmed and lived on the home farm his entire lifetime. He was born, farmed and died on the home farm.
August 14, 1942, he married Aletta Felske of Janesville at the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters: Elaine Duenes, Elysian; Mrs. Renato (Edith) Ciavatti, Raleigh, N. Carolina; Mrs. Glenn (Rita) Vogler, Waseca; a son LeRoy, Madison Lake; three grandchildren; Paula, Robert and Nichole; brothers and sisters: Herman, Elysian; Paul, Sheffield, Iowa; Everett, Rural Elysian; Delphin, Hoyt Lakes; Mrs. Emma Morsching, Waterville; Mrs. Ida Storjohann, rural Janesville; Mrs. Herman (Frieda) Krienke, Janesville; Mrs. Martha Tolzmann, LeCenter and Mrs. Selma Siefert, Elysian.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Elysian. Rev. E. Timothy Frick will officiate and burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Elysian.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ewald.
He was an active member in the many community activities in Elysian. He served as an elder of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
