SALEM, N.Y. -- Muriel B. Barrett, 74, of Bogtown Road, Salem, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2012, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born July 31, 1938, in Manhattan, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Burl Owens and Mary Malone Owens Crotty. She was the stepdaughter of the late James Crotty.

Muriel was of the Catholic faith. She and her late husband, Gordon, owned and operated Gordie's Diner in Salem for many years and at the same time she worked as a waitress at Saratoga Race Track Club House until retiring.

Muriel was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Francis J. Clark, CMH American Legion Post No. 812 in Salem. She loved to crochet, collect coins and watch wildlife around her home while sitting on her porch. She was faithful to her dog, Lukie, whom she adored and cherished.

In addition to her parents and stepfather, Muriel was also predeceased by her husband, Gordon C. Barrett; a brother, John Owens; two sisters, Lillian Bain and Renee Nix.

Muriel is survived by her children, Rhonda Lunt and her companion, Raymond King, Rita Wadsworth and her companion, Craig Linendoll, Roxanne Barrett and her companion, Rick Wilcox, and Gordon Barrett and his fiance, Stephanie Morrison. She is also survived by her siblings, Elaine DeMarsico of Mechanicville, Frank Owens and his wife, Connie, of Greenwich, Veronica Davis and her husband, Gordie, of Greenwich, Rita Allen of Hudson Falls and Yvonne Crotty of Hudson Falls; a stepsister, Dottie Conlin of Ballston Spa; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Salem.

Memorial contributions in memory of Muriel may be made to the Salem Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 360, Salem, NY 12865.
