Johan Adam Papst is the son of Johan Paul Papst and Maria Dorothia Weiss. He immigrated to Canada through Philadelphia, PA, in about 1750 and married Eva Maria Hamm. They had eight children as follows:

Johan Adam Papst and Eva Maria Hamm were living in Schoharie Cnty., New York at the time of the American Revolution. Johan fought on the side of the Loyalists as a member of the 84th. Regiment of New York. He served with Butler's Rangers, and he was awarded land in Osnabruck, Stormont, Ontario, for his service to the monarch. For this reason, the family moved to Osnabruck, Ontario, from New York.
