Pastor James R. Ahart, 63, of Washington, W. Va. passed away July 3, 2008, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 26, 1944, in Parkersburg, a son of the late George Edison and Dorothy Elouise Yoho Ahart. Jim was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and attended West Virginia University. He served in the U.S. Navy for 17 years, was a member of the DAV, was retired as a union carpenter and had owned and operated Ahart Construction where he enjoyed building houses. Jim loved his family and was a devout Christian. He loved ministering and preaching in the surrounding area and at the Old Country Church where he was pastor and where he loved his church family.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Wilma Tibbs Ahart; seven children, Jill Ruckman (Jim) of Waverly, Jerry Ahart (Mickie) of Parkersburg, Connie Thorne of North Carolina, Mary Brock of Parkersburg, Mike Baker of Washington, W.Va. and Rick and David Brock both of Parkersburg; four brothers and sisters, Mary Noland (Ray) of Williamstown, Pat Montgomery (John) of Parkersburg, Linda Affolter (Dennis) of Mineral Wells and Bill Ahart (Linda) of Belleville; 10 grandchildren, Savannah and Tyler Brock, Wesley, Jeremy and Natalie Thorne, Dustin Baker, Mirranda and Kayla Brock, Katie Brock and Christopher Kincade; two great-grandchildren, Addison Jackson and Jaylin Brock; and a close friend, Tommy Brock of Washington, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Noland and an infant sister.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Pike Street, Parkersburg, with Pastor Dave Cumpston officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens with full military rites by the American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. today, and one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
