Born Aug. 1, 1904, in Freeland, Wyoming, Lillian Freudenthal McQueen was
the daughter of Henry and Jeannetta (McGraugh) Freudenthal; and moved with
the family to Thermopolis in 1913. She graduated from Thermopolis High
School in 1924 and was captain of the girls' basketball team.
On Aug. 31, 1924, Lillian married Dub McQueen in Thermopolis. They ranched
on Cottonwood Creek until her husband's death in 1955 after 31 years of
marriage. Lillian then moved to Thermopolis. Known as the "the cookie
lady" on her block, she loved children and was called "Granny Lil." She
cared for many people and was employed by the Wyoming Pioneer Home in
housekeeping and the kitchen for several years.
A rock-hound at heart, she enjoyed all kinds of crafts. She was a member of
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, Holy Trinity
Episcopal Church, War Mothers, Extension Club, and Rebekah's.
Lillian was preceded in death by a young son, Charles Ray. She also has a
daughter, Ruby (McQueen) Bucher and a son, Douglas Arley McQueen.
