Brownie Belle Patterson
Thermopolis – Memorial services for former Thermopolis resident, Brownie Belle Patterson, 69, who died Feb. 10, 1987 in Lakewood, Colo., were held Feb. 14, 1987 at the Olinger Chapel in Lakewood, with the Rev. C.R. Fond officiating.
Mrs. Patterson was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Piedmont, Mo., to Clarence and Jessie (Diesel) French. The family moved to Craig, Colo., when she was a young girl. She moved to Thermopolis in 1941 where she owned and operated The Fashion Shop until 1949. She married Landis Merrill in 1950. Following his death in 1952, she owned and operated the Basin Ranch on Owl Creek until she sold the ranch in 1962 to the Empire Oil Co. She moved to Arizona and retired and in 1973 moved to Denver where she lived until her death.
During her younger years, she was active in outdoor activities and was an accordion teacher and in later years, was an avid golfer.
While living in the Denver area, she became active in stained glass and had been a stained glass instructor for the Phoenix Glass Works until shortly before her death.
Survivors include two sons, J.B. Roden of Ten Sleep and Morgan Maghee of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Leslie Ann Burton of Lakewood; one brother John French of Green Valley, Ariz.; one sister, Sallie Ann Hutchinson of Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Landis Merrill and Pat Patterson; her parents and one brother.
Cremation has taken place and interment of cremains was Feb. 23, at Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis.
